Wheeler: Emilia Sykes Is Using Nepotism To Get A Winnable Congressional Seat

Calls For Vernon Sykes To Step Down From Ohio Redistricting Commission

"We have a right to expect the best from our elected officials," continued Wheeler. "With the Sykes, we see nepotism and a conflict of interest.

AKRON, OH, February 17, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ohio Attorney and Accountant, Greg Wheeler, Republican candidate for for Ohio's Thirteenth Congressional District called out Democratic State Representative Emilia Sykes for using her father to draw a winnable congressional seat for her. Sykes' father, State Senator Vernon Sykes, serves on the Ohio Redistricting Commission tasked by the Ohio Supreme Court to redraw Ohio's congressional districts. Wheeler points to the obvious conflict of interest and ethics violation of Vernon Sykes serving on the Commission as his daughter seeks to run for one of the congressional seats her father is drawing up. Wheeler said that Sykes is using her father to obtain a congressional seat because she knew one that accurately reflected Ohio's voters would not be winnable for her.

Wheeler announced further that he is launching an online petition at https://greg4ohio.com/petition where citizens can signup to support Vernon Sykes stepping down. Wheeler also urges voters to contact Emilia Sykes' legislative office to convince her to have her father step down from the Ohio Redistricting Commission.

"Trust in government is at an all-time low and Vernon and Emilia Sykes are the perfect examples of why this is. This clear conflict of interest, a father drawing a congressional district for his daughter, is an obvious ethics violation," said Greg Wheeler. "I urge Vernon Sykes to step down from the Ohio Redistricting Commission. This taints the entire Ohio redistricting process."

"We have a right to expect the best from our elected officials," continued Wheeler. "With the Sykes, we see nepotism and a conflict of interest. Ohio deserves fair redistricting and fair play in the process. Is Emilia Sykes afraid of to play fair?"

"I urge voters to go to https://greg4ohio.com/petition to let their voices be heard," concluded Wheeler. "Let the Sykes know that there is no place for nepotism in the redistricting process."
