Prior to beginning his civilian career, Mr. Laya served honorably as an operation specialist and combat information center supervisor in the United States Navy between 1992 and 2012. Since his retirement, Mr. Laya has put his knowledge and experience as a Subject Matter Expert in Ballistic Missile and Integrated Air and Missile Defense, helping modernizing our AEGIS Weapon System for our Navy today. Mr. Laya earned his certification as a professional photographer from the New York Institute of Photography and founded Jac&Mac Photography in 2010 creating further success for the last 12 years.
Furthermore, Mr. Laya earned an Associate of Arts in general science from Tidewater Community College in 2010. He later obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a minor in information technology from ECPI University in 2014. Mr. Laya also graduated with a Master of Business Administration from Excelsior College and became licensed in Life and Annuities in Virginia.
Mr. Laya notably established his own financial counseling business, My Financial Compass, in 2019. He is particularly inspired by the opportunity to educate people, particularly in Spanish-speaking communities regarding financial education and entrepreneurship. In his present position, he organizes financial workshops and operates as a guest speaker to transiting Active to civilian military members, engaged and married couples and graduating students. As part of his dedication to his field, he is a member of the Florida Chamber of Commerce and the George Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Laya plans to continue his stellar work with My Financial Compass, becoming financially independent in the next several years.
