Auntyland Film Festival up and ready to run March 8-31st

To Honor International Women's Day and Women's History Month



We present a number of hits from the film festival circuit and several directorial debuts from women and BIPOC filmmakers. We are here to affirm diverse and independent voices, especially women.

    NEW YORK, NY, March 07, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Auntyland Film Festival (AFF) is proud to announce its inaugural slate of short films is ready and set to open to the world on March 8, 2022, International Women's Day, and run through March 31, in honor of Women's History Month.

The selections reflect an intersectional flavor and bold visions from women and diverse filmmakers. The festival is presented in three themed film blocks for easy audience access. Block 1 is Arts, Society, & Experimental; Block 2 is Romance, Culture, & Comedy; and Block 3 is Global, Environment & Activism.

"We present a number of hits from the film festival circuit and several directorial debuts from women and BIPOC filmmakers. We are here to affirm diverse and independent voices, and especially women over 50," said Sylvia Wong Lewis, film festival director who became a filmmaker at 60 after decades of working in journalism.

Lewis and the festival team are determined to keep everyone safe by producing this virtual festival. But as Covid cases drop and mask and vaccines rules relax, in-person events are already being planned, according to Lewis.

"We are energized by the digital lineup that will run on our 24-day festival," Lewis added. Each film block and its corresponding live filmmaker talkback Q&A session is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Portions of the program will be recorded and can be viewed again on the festival's YouTube Channel. O.Funmilayo Makarah and Shannon Joy Shird, both award-winning filmmakers will be moderators. The curator/judges are filmmakers and multimedia creatives, Louise Fleming, Yoko Lytle, and Marjorie Clarke.

The audience is urged to watch all the films and tune in to hear and see the film directors at scheduled talkbacks Q&A sessions.

Auntyland Film Festival is a community-based Tribeca, New York City volunteer event supported by volunteers and donations. It is the newest addition to the Narrative Network platform. Created during the current Covid19 pandemic, for women and BIPOC artists, the Festival adds a new layer to a multicultural and multi-generational storytelling mission.
