"It is our great honor to celebrate Dr. Perlman and his personal commitment to positively impact the oral healthcare of patients with disabilities," said Crown Council Founder Steven J. Anderson. I am deeply humbled and honored to be inducted into the Crown Council's Hall of Fame."
In 1992 Dr. Perlman provided dental services to Rosemary Kennedy – the sister of President John F. Kennedy – who had intellectual disability. Several weeks later he met with Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the founder of Special Olympics. She asked him to create a health program and to oversee the Special Olympics Special Smiles, which provides free dental screenings and comprehensive oral healthcare information to athletes.
