Dr. Philip began his career as an electrical engineer at Cornell University and a cooperative student with the medical products division of Hewlett-Packard. As an accomplished professional, he has accrued seven patents and developed more than 20 medical products. Dr. Philip was proud to receive the Stinchfield Award from the Hip Society for Orthopedic Research, the JS Gravenstein Award for Visionary Understanding of the Role of Technology in Anesthesia Care and Lifetime Commitment to Patient Safety from the Society for Technology in Anesthesia (STA) and the American Society of Anesthesiologists - Society for Education in Anesthesia (ASA-SEA) Distinguished Educator award.

As a respected voice in his field, Dr. Philip previously served as an editor of several professional publications, such as the Journal of Clinical Anesthesia, the International Journal of Clinical Monitoring and Computing and the Anesthesia Department Clinical Practice Manual. He has also authored a book, nearly 30 book chapters, five book reviews and a number of editorials. Dr. Philip likewise has contributed to nearly 65 peer-reviewed journal articles and research investigations, numerous videotapes, more than 15 films and various webcasts and has conducted 250 visiting professorships.

He is also professionally involved with the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia, the American Society for Testing and Materials and the Association of University Anesthetists. Moreover, Dr. Philip has been affiliated with the Society for Technology in Anesthesia as a founder and as its president in 1991, and the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation.

Throughout his career, Dr. Philip has attributed his professional success to his teachers, his parents, his wife, Dr. Beverly Khnie Philip, and his mentors who were very influential in the fields of electrical engineering, biomedical engineering and anesthesiology. Looking toward the future, he would like to advance to become a full-time consultant in medical technology.
