Mr. Haneman is the president of Rivertownes PA USA, a nonprofit historical organization that was formed in 2002. Relying on volunteers, he strives to improve river towns while encouraging art, heritage and recreational efforts throughout various towns in Pennsylvania, including Columbia, Marietta and Wrightsville. Mr. Haneman also works alongside several board members and collaborates with various organizations from York and Lancaster Counties to support the efforts of the nonprofit.
Among his accomplishments since joining Rivertownes PA USA, Mr. Haneman has become involved with the 10-year restoration of the Musselman-Vesta Iron Furnace Center, a historic building within the Chickies Historic District Furnace Complex. Looking toward the future, he hopes to render the building more accessible to citizens in Marietta for years to come. Among other accomplishments to his credit, Mr. Haneman assisted in the collaboration of replacing all lights on the mile-long bridge that crosses the Susquehanna between Wrightsville and Columbia.
Rivertownes PA USA notably hosts various guided walking tours, group tours and other events. The organization also hosts its annual Pig Iron Fest every September, which is sponsored by the Donegal Area Rotary Club and the Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation. The festival highlights various historic aspects of the iron foundries and the significance they had in building the region. The annual event includes live music, food and beverage vendors, and several attractions for the children of the community.
Mr. Haneman attributes much of his success to the relationships he has established with members of Rivertownes PA USA. Outside of his contributions in this respect, he is a well-known pen and ink artist, which, although difficult and time-consuming, he enjoys for its utility in capturing local history. Mr. Haneman spent much of his life in Lancaster County and has lived in Marietta for over 35 years. His appreciation for architecture and works of art stem from his maternal grandfather, who worked as a department store window dresser.
Prior to his commitment in the nonprofit sector, Mr. Haneman was employed by Mars Inc., a large manufacturing company that specializes in various food and pet supplies. Locally, he enjoys membership with Lions Clubs International. Mr. Haneman is also active as a parishioner at a nearby church.
Mr. Haneman earned a Bachelor of Arts in divinity at Lancaster Bible College in 1974. He also holds several industrial certifications in such areas as troubleshooting, training, and equipment. Highlighting his talents, Mr. Haneman has been the recipient of two Pennsylvania Preservation Awards from Rivertownes PA USA, one of which applauded the organization's work in the restoration of a local bridge. He also received a Pennsylvania Council of Social Studies Award for Best Program in the State of Pennsylvania, which lauded educational programs implemented at the Musselman-Vesta Iron Furnace Center. Mr. Haneman has been recognized for his artistic abilities as well, winning several pen and ink artist awards from local organizations.
