Dr. Aguilera is a fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the vice-president of the Association of Philippine-American Physicians of Ohio.

Though he came of age among a family of doctors, Dr. Aguilera's primary drive for entering the medical field was his desire to help other people. He initially pursued a formal education at the University of Santo Tomas, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in physical therapy. Dr. Aguilera subsequently earned a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Santo Tomas and garnered experience in an internship at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center. He later completed two residencies.
Well qualified in his field, Dr. Aguilera has been certified in brain injury medicine and physical medicine and rehabilitation by the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Since 2011, he has served as a staff physician in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Cleveland Clinic. Likewise, he presently acts as the site director for physical medicine and rehabilitation residency training at the Cleveland Clinic Rehabilitation Hospital in Avon and as a clinical preceptor at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. A trusted and respected voice in his field, Dr. Aguilera has also been called upon as a clinical assistant professor at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine-Case Western Reserve University since 2014.
Passionate about rehabilitation and medicine, Dr. Aguilera published: 1) Protein Energy Malnutrition: Relationship of Prealbumin and BMI among Individuals with Spinal Cord Injury for PM&R Journal 2010; 2) Managing Locked-In Syndrome: Lessons from a Profile of a Rare Case. Communication by eyeblink-based Morse code proves resourcefulness is the rule for ConsultQD in 2018; and 3) Effect of Weights Application and Closed Kinematic Chain Exercises on Involuntary Movements in a Patient with Idiopathic Autoimmune Chorea: A Case Report for American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation in 2019.
Dr. Aguilera is a fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the vice-president of the Association of Philippine-American Physicians of Ohio. He is also a diplomate of the Philippine Board of Rehabilitation Medicine and is a member of the International Brain Injury Association.
Dr. Aguilera has garnered a great deal of recognition for his work, including the Cleveland Clinic Catalyst Grant for Rehabilitation Robotics and Technology Initiative. He also developed the Traumatic Brain Injury Cognition Med Toolkit for the Department of PM&R. He attributes his success to his deep and abiding Christian faith, as well as the unwavering support of his parents, wife and son. Among his most cherished career accomplishments, he is most proud to have served as a mentor for the next generation of doctors. Looking toward the future, Dr. Aguilera hopes to continue teaching others.
