Ms. Ward earned an Associate of Science in Applied Nursing from Clackamas Community College in 2008 and began working in obstetrics and gynecology. In 2012, she started working as a registered nurse for Kaiser Permanente Northwest in pediatrics and attained certification in pediatric emergency assessment, recognition and stabilization. In 2019, Ms. Ward transferred to Kaiser Permanente Washington and returned to work in obstetrics and gynecology.
In her present role, Ms. Ward is responsible for providing patient education mainly for gestational diabetes and women's health population education. She is also assisting with the creation of new processes for patient education and general management of gestational diabetes. She was inspired to become a nurse, and was particularly inspired to work in women's health, after witnessing her grandmother deal with an undiagnosed myocardial infarction for several years. Ms. Ward noticed that myocardial infarctions were considered a male health issue, and this was why her grandmother's condition was not managed correctly. The nurse who was caring for her grandmother at the time did not take her complaints of pain seriously, leading to her dying from this condition.
Having experienced such a loss from the nurse's negligence, Ms. Ward is committed to making health care better and more effective as a nurse. Her goal is to help people, especially women, advocate for their health and have the most information they can to better take care of themselves. She has furthered her own education as a certified legal nurse consultant.
