Marquis Who's Who Recognizes Dr. Michael J. Winfield Sr. for Excellence in Education

Dr. Winfield, educator, author, historian, sociologist—celebrates 25-years in education



    MEDFORD, NY, April 18, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Michael J Winfield Sr. has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Celebrating 25 years of service in education, Dr. Winfield has garnered acclaim as an outstanding school administrator and educational leader. As the assistant principal at Shoreham-Wading River High School in Wading River, New York. According to Dr. Steven R. Cohen, former Shoreham-Wading River Superintendent of Schools, "Dr. Winfield's greatest strength as an administrator is his awareness of students' developmental needs, and his commitment to create programs that meet those needs. His firm grasp of adolescent development underlines his proactive approach to creating positive student/teacher and student/administration bonds. He makes it his business to get to know students, to think of ways to bring students together with each other and with teachers." He currently serves as a sociology instructor at St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School in West Islip, New York, in partnership with his alma mater, St John's University in Queens, New York. Outside the classroom, Dr. Winfield excels as the founder and chief executive officer of Quest Excel Media LLC, a mixed-media company. He previously owned and operated Winfield Services, a maintenance and security company. Moreover, John Tessitore, former Executive Director of Communications for the United Nations Association, commended Dr. Winfield for his "expertise and professionalism" as a Brinks Security Consultant.

Dr. Winfield's professional journey began in 1997 as a social studies teacher for Hempstead Public Schools, where he taught for eight years. He subsequently became an administrative dean of students for South Country Central School District from 2005 to 2006, an administrative principal for operations for Riverhead Central School District from 2006 to 2008, and a social studies teacher and department chair for Spring Valley High School from 2008 to 2012.

A considerable influence in his local community, Dr. Winfield has chaired the annual black history month celebration program at Spring Valley High School and the Carnell Adams Memorial Scholarship awards committee. An accomplished motivational speaker, he has also conducted numerous educational workshops for several schools including, Uniondale High School, Spring Valley High School, Hempstead High School and the Epsilon Chi chapter of Phi Delta Kappa Sorority Inc. Among other accomplishments to his credit, Dr. Winfield established the Dr. Edmund W. Gordon and Dr. Susan Gordon Community Service Award and the Purple and Gold Club, a mentoring program for young men of color. Additionally, Dr. Winfield has contributed by donating to the Saint Jude Children's Fund, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Charles R. Drew Blood Drive.

A talented author, Dr. Winfield published the second edition of "Before You Pledge Essential Information You Should Know About Black Greek Letter Organizations" in 2020. He previously authored "Mentoring Matters: A Practical Approach to Fostering Reflective Practices" in 2019. Additionally, Dr. Winfield wrote "The Four Horsemen of West Point: A Narrative History of The Black Cadets That Changed the Color of the United States Military Academy."

Dr. Winfield pursued a formal education at Nassau Community College, where he completed an Associate of Science in criminal justice in 1996. He subsequently attended the State University of New York (SUNY) Old Westbury, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in sociology in 1997. Following this accomplishment, Dr. Winfield was accepted to St. John's University, where he obtained two Master of Arts, one in sociology and one in History, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in modern world history in 2000 and 2007, respectively. He also holds a certificate of advanced study in administration and supervision via the College of Saint Rose and a certificate of study in human resource management and an advanced certificate of study in human resource management at Molloy College.

Showcasing his achievements, Dr. Winfield received an Outstanding Service Award from the Alverta B. Gray Schultz Middle School in Hempstead, New York, in 2017. He was also recognized with a Father of the Year Award from the Chi Rho chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. in 2021. He is a Life Member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Furthermore, Dr. Winfield is a member of the St John's University chapter of Phi Delta Kappa International and the Alpha Kappa Delta International Sociology Honor Society. Dr. Winfield enjoys languages, reading history, and biographies.
