LOS ANGELES, CA, May 11, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Heavy Metal Entertainment is thrilled to announce that the company is partnering with Greg Hildebrandt, Jean Scrocco, and Spiderwebart to release two calendars in September 2022, now available for preorder. The calendar titled Heavy Metal Presents, The Tolkien Art of The Brothers Hildebrandt 2023 features The Brothers Hildebrandt's iconic Lord of The Rings art originally created for their 1976, 1977 and 1978 Lord of the Rings calendars. This edition also includes a special new Taarna centerfold illustrated by Greg Hildebrandt featuring the Heavy Metal icon battling a brand new creature and villain. Additionally, Heavy Metal is releasing the Heavy Metal Presents: American Beauties By Greg Hildebrandt 2023 calendar, which includes 13 of Greg Hildebrandt's gorgeously pulpy noir, sci-fi, and fantasy adult pinup paintings.
In 1975, Greg and Tim Hildebrandt answered the whispers of fate when Ballantine Books asked them to illustrate the 1976 Lord of the Rings calendar. The results were nothing short of astounding, and three calendars and 48 works of art later, the brothers brought to life the words of J.R.R. Tolkien and redefined the fantasy genre. The Brothers Hildebrandt's record setting calendars of 1976, '77 and '78 gave fans their first visual of Hobbits, Orcs, and Middle Earth. Presented in this new 2023 calendar are 13 of the original Greg and Tim Hildebrandt masterpieces. Let the work of the Brothers sweep you away and take you on a journey with Gandalf, Bilbo and the rest of the Fellowship of the Ring as they make their way across the Misty Mountains to the heart of Mount Doom. Plus, this Heavy Metal calendar features Greg Hildebrandt's new fantasy art of Taarna as the featured centerfold.
The American Beauties by Greg Hildebrandt pinup calendar was created by world-renowned artist and illustrator Greg Hildebrandt. Hildebrandt gained international recognition for creating the original Star Wars poster and the 70s Lord of the Rings calendar art along with his brother Tim, and for his "American Beauties" pinup series. Featuring a collection of 13 exquisitely rendered retro-inspired pinup paintings, The American Beauties pinup calendar is like no other. Each painting goes beyond surface level to tell a story that is both rich and compelling; American Beauties harkens back to the days of the pulp noir classics, full of powerful sexy women, characters lurking in the shadows, and the occasional mad scientist! As an added bonus, the calendar features quotes from famous starlets, actors, and pinup models.
"To say I am excited to be releasing not one but two calendars presented by Heavy Metal for 2023 is an understatement. I have been a fan of Heavy Metal Magazine since its earliest days, and I am proud to have had my work adorn several of their covers. Heavy Metal represents a pinnacle of illustrated fantasy. To have them partner with me and my company Spiderwebart to present The Tolkien Art of the Brothers Hildebrandt and the Greg Hildebrandt's American Beauties calendars is truly an honor," said artist Greg Hildebrandt.
Continued Greg Hildebrandt: "In 1975 when Tim and I sat down and began the creative process for the 1976 Tolkien Lord of the Rings calendar, we wanted to create something special. We both felt like we had something to prove in the world, and we pulled out all the stops. However, I don't think either of us could have guessed that some 46 years later, there would still be a desire from people to view them and hang them on their walls. That truly means a lot and is a humbling experience.
In 1999 I began the process of realizing a lifelong artistic dream of creating a personal series of pinups. The masters of pinup impacted my early development as an artist, and I wanted to pay homage to them. Still, I wanted to create something that was uniquely my own. Primarily, the work had to reflect my passion for painting the female figure and how it is affected by light. On top of that, I combined pulp-style imagery and a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor. Mix that all together, and you have 'The American Beauties' series."
"Being able to work with a talent such as Greg on so many projects has been one of the greatest honors of my professional career. But being able to work with him, Jean, and Spiderwebart on producing calendars that capture the heart of Heavy Metal art is nothing short of incredible," said Heavy Metal CEO Matthew Medney.
Added Medney: "The American Beauties calendar showcases vintage Heavy Metal style with a pulpy mix of Greg's pinup and sci-fi art, and The Tolkien Art calendar transcends time and space by bringing back The Brothers Hildebrandt '70s Lord of the Rings artwork. It is a great badge of honor that we can be a part of this journey. On a personal note, I even had Weta Studios forge me a One Ring as my wedding band, so my love for Tolkien really runs deep."
Both the Heavy Metal Presents, The Tolkien Art of The Brothers Hildebrandt 2023 and Heavy Metal Presents: American Beauties By Greg Hildebrandt 2023 calendars are currently available for preorder and will be released on September 13th, 2022 for the following calendar year.
