Thurgood Marshall College Fund to host The Pitch at Winston-Salem State University to focus on Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and the future of Technology

The Pitch Competition will take place May 22-26, 2022

WASHINGTON, DC, May 12, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) is excited to announce details for The Pitch business competition which will take place on May 22-26, 2022. The Pitch is a 4-day entrepreneurial experience where students and budding entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs will be placed in teams to generate ideas that solve business, social, or educational problems, create minimally viable products (MVPs) and pitch to a panel of industry experts. For the first time since the competition launched in 2018, The Pitch will take place on the campus of a TMCF member-school, Winston Salem State University.

"We are delighted The Thurgood Marshall Foundation selected Winston-Salem State University to host this year's The Pitch competition. WSSU and our broader Triad community is a burgeoning eclectic entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem. Our grand strategic vision is that we are preparing every student to graduate with a degree and a business plan with investment capital, consistent with the mission of this competition. We're so proud of all the students participating in this year's competition and wish them much success," said Winston-Salem State University Chancellor Dr. Elwood Robinson

The Pitch, produced by TMCF's Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) division in partnership A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation and other sponsors will give participants the knowledge to excel in the areas of venture ideation, team building, business model development, customer discovery, and pitching.

"The work within the I&E Division is directly aligned with TMCF's ambitious focus on changing the face of leadership in business and beyond." says George Spencer, Chief Development Officer at TMCF. "Programming like The Pitch helps prepare the next generation of diverse innovators who will create and drive technology solutions that will change the world."

The Pitch business competition is also TMCF's first formal step into Web 3.0, as 12 participating students will pilot TMCF's MetaScholars Program as part of The Pitch where they will compete in the Metaverse in addition to the 100 HBCU and PBI in-room competitors. To help transition participants into various levels of immersion, TMCF has selected Mytaverse as the platform for this event.

"The metaverse is an aspirational technology," says Brian Kean, Mytaverse Vice President of Marketing. "If we look beyond the more obvious enterprise-focused use cases like branding, showrooming, and conferencing, then we will see that TMCF has a fantastic opportunity to deploy a uniquely inclusive space. Humanity has done a great job figuring out what separates us from each other and a program like The Pitch aligns itself with the Mytaverse ethos of seeking to empower, engage and embolden interaction between people. It feels good that we are on the cusp of bridging the meta-gap. The Mytaverse team is grateful to have been chosen, honored, and thrilled to be hosting The Pitch on our platform."
