Oluwaseun "Seun" Adetayo, MD, has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

    OMAHA, NE, May 19, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Oluwaseun "Seun" Adetayo, MD, has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Adetayo is a respected pediatric and adult plastic surgeon who has been practicing medicine for nearly a decade, following fifteen years of training. In 2020, she joined Children's Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, where she serves as the chief of pediatric plastic surgery specializing in plastic, reconstructive, and craniofacial surgery. Over the past two years, Dr. Adetayo has been instrumental in building a multifaceted innovative program and team, creating opportunities to utilize her skills in core reconstructive procedures to help children born with deformities. As a pioneer, she has performed many innovative surgery techniques that are the first-of-its-kind in the state of Nebraska and the Children's Hospital. She spearheaded and championed these efforts for families in Nebraska, so that they have access to top-notch cutting edge procedures that were previously only available at select leading children's hospitals in the country.

As an extension of Dr. Adetayo's career, her excellent surgical acumen, outstanding clinical outcomes, and numerous awards and research swiftly earned her the position of Professor of Surgery in 2020. She currently serves as a Professor in the department of surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. In addition to being a surgeon and speaker, she also enjoys teaching and mentoring students, residents, and faculty to help them succeed and impact the next generation of medical professionals. Dr. Adetayo has contributed to several book chapters in various medical texts. She has authored numerous scientific publications, research works, and family resource guides for parents, caregivers, and children with cleft and craniofacial differences. She has been an award honoree and invited speaker serving as Visiting Professor to leading institutions around the country such as the University of Chicago, Yale, Harvard, University of Pittsburgh, UCLA, and many more.

Throughout her career, Dr. Adetayo has served on various medical panels and committees, and has become a frequent speaker regionally, nationally, and internationally. She has served as a national lecturer at Stanford University, and internationally as a guest lecturer and surgical specialist in surgical missions to countries including Nigeria, Peru, Cuba, and Zimbabwe. Prior to Omaha, she served at Albany Medical Center between 2013 and 2019. During her tenure at the aforementioned center, Dr. Adetayo also found success as the Founder and Director of the Cleft-Craniofacial Center, the first of its kind in Northeastern New York, which was established with the assistance of a Rotary Foundation Global Grant in 2015.

A dedicated civic advocate, Dr. Adetayo has been distinguished for her long record of community involvement. In 2016, she was appointed as an alumni council board elect and an alumni ambassador for the University of Chicago. Dr. Adetayo previously operated as the chairman of the Long Beach Rescue Mission in Long Beach, California, an assistant job coach for the ARC in Los Angeles, and Coordinator of the Chicago Local Chapter of the Adolescence Substance Abuse and Prevention Program for inner-city schools kids in Chicago.

Born in Nigeria, West Africa to parents Matthew Adetoro and Rhoda Olutayo Adetayo, Dr. Adetayo earned a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Computer Science with minors in Biochemistry and Mathematics, graduating Summa Cum Laude, at Eastern Michigan University in 2002. She subsequently continued her academic efforts at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, from which she obtained a Doctor of Medicine in 2006. Additional educational pursuits to her credit include a six-year residency in Integrated Plastic Surgery at Loma Linda University in California between 2006 and 2012 and a Fellowship in Pediatric Plastic Surgery and Craniofacial Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine between 2012 and 2013. Dr. Adetayo was further certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, landing in the top 2 percentile nationally.

Dr. Adetayo has been inducted as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Pediatrics. She has also maintained leadership and membership with the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgery, the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association, the American Society of Craniofacial Surgery, and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Dr. Adetayo has overcome much adversity in pursuit of her professional goals as a female minority immigrant. Representing just 3 percent of the U.S. as a minority female serving in academic plastic and reconstructive surgery, she enjoys making a positive impact on her patients' lives as well as the upcoming young generation. She looks forward to her future years in medicine, teaching, mentoring, and advocacy and she is active in promoting diversity, equity, inclusion to give children and young adults a chance to have exposure to the medical field. Dr. Adetayo plans to continue focusing on building programs and great teams at the hospital and in the community, mentoring, and public speaking so that she can inspire others.

Recognizing her achievements, Dr. Adetayo has been honored with numerous accolades, including recognition among 2022 Top Doctors and America's Top Plastic Surgeons by the Consumer Research Council of America in 2015. She was also honored as a Favorite Doc by Hudson Valley Parent Magazine in 2016, and was selected in the 40 Under 40 list by Albany Business Review Magazine in 2018.
