About The Honorable Judge Wesley "Wes" Heidt

Judge Wesley "Wes" Heidt was appointed as a Volusia County Judge in 2020 after a 30-year career of practicing law. Judge Heidt believes that serving on the bench is one of the highest callings for someone in the legal profession.

Since being appointed, Judge Heidt has presided over a very active civil division. Judge Heidt has respected the role of the judicial branch, has followed the law, and has treated all before him with respect.

Judge Heidt's Professional Experience

Bureau Chief of Florida Attorney General – Judge Wesley "Wes" Heidt was chosen by the Florida Attorney General to lead her local legal office of nearly 20 attorneys and 30 total employees. As an Assistant Attorney General, he handled cases in all levels of state and federal courts from the Florida trial courts to the United States Supreme Court. He has hundreds of published cases and has argued in the Florida Supreme Court and Eleventh Circuit numerous times.

Two of the more high profile cases Judge Heidt handled as an Assistant Attorney General were the Casey Anthony appeal and the appeal to the Federal Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals of the district court's order declaring all of Florida drug statutes to be unconstitutional.

Medical Examiner's Commissioner – Judge Wesley "Wes" Heidt was nominated by the Attorney General to represent her and appointed by the Governor to serve as one of only nine commissioners on the Commission. His duties include establishing minimum and uniform standards for medical examiners as well as serving on probable cause panels resolving allegations of misconduct based upon complaints filed with the Commission.
