Neurologist Igor Levy-Reis, MD, named a 2022 Castle Connolly Top Doctor

NAPLES, FL, June 02, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Igor Levy-Reis, MD, has been recognized as a 2022 Castle Connolly Top Doctor — the 11th consecutive year he has received the Top Doctor honor. Only about 7 percent of the nation's licensed physicians are selected as Castle Connolly Top Doctors in their regions for their specialties.

Dr. Levy-Reis is a neurologist with NASA Neuroscience and Spine Associates, where he diagnoses and treats patients with a wide range of neurological (brain-related) conditions. He has special expertise in geriatric neurology, headache medicine, and neurophysiology, caring for people with memory-loss disorders including Alzheimer's disease; migraine and other chronic headaches; and epilepsy.

He has been seeing adult patients of all ages in Naples since 2007.

"Working to improve people's quality of life is the best reward one can have in a profession," says Dr. Levy-Reis. "And because we doctors are eternal students — always learning from our peers and our patients — our work keeps us young in heart and mind."

"I see and study all kinds of neurological diseases, and I never forget the basic sciences when things get complex and we have challenging puzzles to solve," he says. "Because sometimes when we focus solely on a particular tree, we may miss the extension of the forest."

Dr. Levy-Reis says it's not uncommon for his patients to suffer from more than one condition.

"For example, we might see someone with complex migraines who also has suffered a secondary transient ischemic attack," he says. "Or a patient with Alzheimer's disease whose condition worsens — not due to disease progression, but because he was having unrecognized seizures that we could easily treat, resulting in a significant improvement in his quality of life."

Dr. Levy-Reis says he often looks to the valuable patient-care advice given more than a century ago by eminent physician Sir William Osler.

"I try to remember the lesson he taught us all: 'Just listen to your patient; he is telling you the diagnosis,'" he says. "And that will never change."

Dr. Levy-Reis is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology. He is certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, with subspecialty certification in neurophysiology. He is also certified in geriatric neurology, headache medicine, and neuroimaging by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties.

Top Doctors are nominated by peer physicians and selected by the physician-led Castle Connolly research team.

"It's really a privilege to do what I love and to have my work recognized, especially by my peers," Dr. Levy-Reis says. "I was very lucky to have had incredible mentors in medical school and throughout my training in several of the finest institutions in the country and the world."

Dr. Levy-Reis earned his medical degree from Brazil's Federal University of Minas Gerais School of Medicine. He completed a three-year neurology residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital/Northwestern University School of Medicine; a one-year neuroimaging fellowship at the National Institutes of Neurological Disorders and Stroke; and a two-year epilepsy/neurophysiology fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
