Pirate-themed Philanthropy Project Focuses on Kids Helping Kids

Shared Treasure Hunt Benefits Children on both Ends of the Equation

LONG BEACH, CA, June 03, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In an age when the young are often labeled "entitled," the Whimsicalitea 501(c)(3) arts nonprofit has elected to enlist children to supply aid to impoverished and homeless youth. And what could be a more fun way to do so than by going on a treasure hunt?

Shared Treasure Hunt invites kids to collect new and gently used items to donate to underprivileged kids in time for the new school year, with participants tracking their progress on a special treasure map as they go. Participating "scallywags" are encouraged to gather 21 items over the course of the 21-day activity, from last year's backpack to a new toothbrush to socks to a favorite paperback. Once the loot has been amassed, participants will deliver it to their local children's aid organization to ensure it gets to a child in need.

Heather Brims Ed.S, M.A., CPC, ELI-MP, who serves as the point person for Shared Treasure Hunt, joined the program for a variety of reasons. "I'm delighted to be a part of Shared Treasure Hunt because it truly embodies the spirit of empathy, engagement, and outreach at a child's level. As an educator and family dynamics specialist, it warms my heart to see families getting out into the community together for the greater good."

Families who wish to partner with others in their area can create their own local "krewes" to celebrate with kick-off parties and related activities just prior to the July 11 commencement of the hunt. Sponsorship opportunities are available as well for those who don't quite qualify as "kids."
