While studying for her bachelor's degree, Ms. Kooistra discovered a passion for behavior analysis. She received a Bachelor of Science in rehabilitation services with minors in psychology and philosophy in 2005 and a Master of Science in behavior analysis and therapy in 2007, both from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. She has been certified by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board and licensed by the state of Wisconsin.
Ms. Kooistra is the founder and president of JMK Behavior Services. At JMK Behavior Services, her aim is to produce positive changes for every child and their families by providing individualized treatment in a positive and holistic way. She began garnering experience in the field as an undergraduate. Having earned a research grant, she served as a behavioral counselor for children and families at risk or indicative of abuse, neglect or exploitation. Subsequently, she worked as a behavior analyst for various establishments, including high schools, the Streamwood Behavioral Healthcare System, Autism Home Support Services and Primary Psychological Associates.
To remain aware of developments affecting her field, Ms. Kooistra is a member of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, the Illinois Association for Behavior Analysis, the Association of Professional Behavior Analysts and the Council of Autism Service Providers. Looking toward the future, Ms. Kooistra hopes to be the first behavior analyst to swim the English Channel.
