New Beginnings Reentry Services, Inc. Awarded $100,000 Cummings Foundation Grant

    BOSTON, MA, June 10, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- New Beginnings Reentry Services, Inc. (NBRS), an organization dedicated to empowering and providing reentry services to formerly incarcerated women, has been awarded a $100,000 grant through Cummings Foundation's $25 Million Grant Program. The Boston-based organization was selected from a total of 580 applicants during a competitive review process by the Foundation. NBRS is one of 140 local nonprofits to receive grants of $100,000 to $500,000 each, and it will receive $25,000 over 4 years.

The award provides critical funding to NBRS at a time the organization recently opened a three-story Reentry House, to deliver evidence-based treatment and supervision programs for formerly incarcerated women. Founded in 2016, New Beginnings Reentry Services, Inc., is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization working in partnership with community agencies to empower and provide transitional housing and reentry services to formerly incarcerated women to successfully rejoin their communities.

NBRS Founder and President Stacey Borden said, "This grant will go a long way towards helping women coming home into the community with the many resources they need." She continued, "We are excited to be a partner with the Cummings Foundation, and we appreciate that the Cummings Foundation understands the importance of supporting women, particularly low income and minority women during their time of transition back into their communities."

The project plans to deliver a holistic support program through which recently released female offenders will be offered counseling, workshops, substance abuse rehabilitation, self-help groups, art therapy, educational testing, and job placement.

The Cummings $25 Million Grant Program supports Massachusetts nonprofits that are based in and primarily serve Middlesex, Essex, and Suffolk counties. "We are so fortunate in greater Boston to have such effective nonprofits, plus a wealth of talented, dedicated professionals and volunteers to run them," said Cummings Foundation executive director Joyce Vyriotes. "We are indebted to them for the work they do each day to provide for basic needs, break down barriers to education and health resources, and work toward a more equitable society."
