GRAMMY-Nominated Artist Carolyn Malachi Challenges the Perceptions of Womanhood with New Single, Brunch

Using Music to Challenge Ill-Formed Narratives Surrounding Womanhood and Identity

Through my new single, "Brunch" I am having fun while challenging ill-formed, pervasive narratives of Black women and their womanhood, all while giving you a song you can dance to.

BALTIMORE, MD, June 16, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- GRAMMY-nominated artist Carolyn Malachi is back on the music scene and challenging the misconceptions surrounding womanhood with the release of her new single titled, Brunch. This song is from her forthcoming album, Counter Narratives which is due to be released July 2022.

Brunch is a sultry hit that makes you want to grab your partner or best friends and head to the dance floor, all while tackling the topic of family planning and how society attaches women's worth and identity to it. Carolyn began to develop her new body of work based on her personal experiences and those of other women, particularly the schema of the strong black woman and its mental health consequences among African American women.

"For centuries, society has simultaneously disregarded the lived experience of Black women while holding them to unfair expectations. This is evident today in what researchers refer to as the "Strong Black Woman" schema, an internalized narrative that often gets in the way of fundamental, self-preserving measures such as taking time off to address health concerns, setting healthy boundaries, and experiencing joy, peace, or abundance without guilt. Through my new single, "Brunch" I am having fun while challenging ill-formed, pervasive narratives of Black women and their womanhood, all while giving you a song you can dance to. My goal is for listeners to feel connected, accepted, and elevated," stated - Carolyn Malachi
