NEW YORK, NY, June 28, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Brian P. Jacob, MD, has been recognized as a 2022 Castle Connolly Top Doctor — the 11th consecutive year he has received the Top Doctor honor. Only about 7 percent of the nation's licensed physicians are selected as Castle Connolly Top Doctors in their regions for their specialties.
Known for his compassionate and detailed approach to each patient, Dr. Jacob is an internationally recognized surgeon specializing in hernia repair, weight-loss surgery, and chronic pain for over 15 years. He uses the most advanced techniques to treat hernias of the groin (inguinal), diaphragm (hiatal), abdominal wall, and belly button (umbilical), and he distinguishes himself as one of the best surgeons in the country by providing a uniquely personalized approach to each patient.
He is an expert in treating core muscle injuries (sports hernias), diastasis (abdominal muscle separation), as well as in the management of chronic abdominal wall and groin pain that is sometimes caused by trapped nerves, prior hernia repairs, muscle or tendon injuries, or previous use of surgical hernia mesh.
Dr. Jacob also specializes in bariatric (weight-loss) surgery, including the gastric bypass and the gastric sleeve gastrectomy procedures. Having performed over 1,400 sleeve gastrectomies with superior outcomes and extraordinary weight loss, he notes that the results are often life-changing.
A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Jacob is certified by the American Board of Surgery. He sees patients ages 15 and older at his practice in New York City, NYC Hernia, and he operates at Mount Sinai Hospital and Midtown Surgery Center. In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Jacob serves as an Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He is also the founder of the International Hernia Collaboration, Inc., an international hernia education company providing global online and in-person hernia education with a reach to over 11,000 surgeons.
Top Doctors are nominated by peer physicians and selected by the physician-led Castle Connolly research team.
Dr. Jacob earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed a six-year surgery residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York; a research fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at Mount Sinai School of Medicine; and a clinical fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center and Weill-Cornell Medical Center.
