He subsequently served in the U.S. Army National Guard for nearly three decades, prior to his retirement as a lieutenant colonel in 1985. Following his military career, Mr. Kimmel worked as a postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service in Georgetown, South Carolina, for more than 35 years. Since 2007, he has found much success as the chief executive officer of DEK – Donald E. Kimmel, a gun shop in Waynesville, North Carolina. In this capacity, Mr. Kimmel specializes in buying and selling collectible guns, and is responsible for cleaning, repairing and maintaining firearms merchandise and creating firearm parts.
Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Kimmel is most proud to have earned $4,000 from the sale of a firearm that he acquired in an auction, which helped establish his reputation for providing customers with unusual or rare guns. Additionally, he has contributed on a significant level to the Kairos Prison Ministry, which is an interdenominational Christian ministry that has helped reduce recidivism in the country and impacted countless incarcerated individuals. Mr. Kimmel is a Scottish Rite Mason and Master Mason and was Master of Winyah 40 AFM in Georgetown, SC in 1995-1996.
Mr. Kimmel attributes much of his success to his Christian faith, his perseverance and aspirations toward greatness. Likewise, he has garnered a reputation for his consideration of others.
