Having accrued over 60 years of valuable experience, Dr. Tolentino is well regarded as a leading expert in the field of ophthalmology. Having long felt a natural inclination to help others, he has been a proactive figure in his profession since 1956. Though he is currently retired, Dr. Tolentino accomplished much throughout his career, having devised and performed new techniques for retinal surgery, diagnosed and treated eye diseases in countless patients, and taught students at several universities and colleges.

Originally hailing from the Philippines, Dr. Tolentino began his vocational journey by pursuing a formal education, attending the University of the Philippines and receiving an Associate of Arts in 1952 and an MD in 1957. In addition to his educational credentials, he would subsequently earn a certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology and recognition as a licensed physician in the Philippines, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. After completing his studies, Dr. Tolentino took on a position as a resident ophthalmologist at the Philippine General Hospital in Manila from 1957 to 1959. He later immigrated to the U.S. after being offered a similar role with St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, New York, where he worked from 1959 to 1961.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Tolentino worked with numerous hospitals and schools, including the Homer G. Philipps Hospital, the Eye Research Institute in Boston, Massachusetts, Harvard Medical School, the Manila Medical Center, Warren Memorial Hospital in Turners Falls, Massachusetts, and Hahnemann Hospital in Brighton, Massachusetts. In addition to his primary vocation, he is a co-founder of the Asian Eye Institute in the Philippines. As a commitment to his profession, Dr. Tolentino also maintained memberships with several industry-related organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Retina Society.

As a civic-minded citizen, Dr. Tolentino began a charitable organization in the Philippines, which focused on cataract blindness for patients in underserved communities. Furthermore, he was always well regarded for providing free eye care services to impoverished patients. Likewise known for his scholarly output, he has co-authored several books, including "Proliferative Vitreoretinopathy (PVR)" and "Atlas of Vitreoretinal Surgery." Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Tolentino is most proud to have been accepted into medical school. To wit, he is grateful for the love and support of his family, especially his late uncle, who, having also cultivated a career as a doctor, served as one of Dr. Tolentino's role models.
