Following more than three decades of excellence in the field of labor law, Ms. Mayes has built a prolific career as a labor mediator for the state of Michigan for more than 20 years. In this capacity, she is responsible for negotiating labor contracts, resolving grievances and mediating disputes. Prior to this role, she served as a labor relations specialist for the city of Detroit for over 10 years. Ms. Mayes initially began her career as an inventory management specialist for the U.S. Air Force from 1977 to 1981, where her appreciation for teamwork and the foundation of her stable work ethic began.

Ms. Mayes sought an education at Wayne State University, where she received a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1985. Following this accomplishment, she obtained a master's degree in 1998. Ms. Mayes subsequently concluded her academic efforts at Wayne State with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 2016.

Noted for her achievements in the field, Ms. Mayes was honored with an Excellence Award for Negotiating by the state of Michigan. Though her professional journey has been filled with many memorable moments, she is especially proud to have received the Prince 1999 Scholarship in 1983 at Wayne State University. The endowments were notably bestowed by Prince, the entertainer and philanthropist, who gave away scholarships in various cities where he held concert performances.

Looking toward the future, Ms. Mayes intends to publish a book that she has been working on for a significant period of time. Additionally, when she retires, she hopes to expand upon her three decades of experience by serving as a labor arbitrator.
