PASADENA, MD, August 10, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Vernell Shaheed-Levrone has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than three decades of experience in the fields of law enforcement and public safety to her credit, Ms. Shaheed-Levrone has distinguished herself as the Director of Public Safety for the Community College of Baltimore County. Responsible for ensuring the safety of over 60,000 students, as well as three main campus areas and expansion centers, she frequently attends to such duties as setting departmental goals, managing operational and support functions, overseeing criminal investigations, leading crisis response efforts for the college, and conducting emergency preparedness drills, among other vital obligations. Rising to her current role in 2019, Ms. Shaheed-Levrone previously served as the Assistant Director of Public Safety between 2015 and 2017.

Ms. Shaheed-Levrone initially became involved in the field of law enforcement as an officer with the Baltimore Police Department (BPD), through which she investigated crimes in the Inner Harbor area and gradually rose through the ranks to serve as a Patrol Supervisor, Recruitment Supervisor and a Shift Commander. In the latter role, she notably supervised four police sergeants and more than 40 officers. Throughout the span of her work with the BPD, she is most proud to have functioned as a domestic violence coordinator – in this position, she helped to eliminate a backlog of 3,000 domestic incident reports and oversaw the operations of nine detectives. This experience proved invaluable in her later role as the Commander of the Family Crimes Unit, which proved integral in handling thousands of domestic incidents and saving the lives of many.

Following the conclusion of her work with the BPD, Ms. Shaheed-Levrone joined the adjunct staff at Carroll Community College, where she taught such subjects as criminology, juvenile justice, and introductions to criminal justice and law enforcement from 2010 until 2013. During this time, she also served as a Regional Director at Work Opportunities Unlimited, a community-based job placement service, where she mentored, trained and evaluated the career resource specialist team and maintained fruitful relationships with referral sources, among other duties. Likewise dedicated to civic advocacy, she has volunteered as Secretary and Vice President of the Vanguard Justice. Society, treasurer of the Veronica Gary Scholarship Fund Inc., and serves as the president of Sisters Exceling Everyday, an organization established to aid and assist women and children in accomplishing such basic life skills as education, financial management and health care, while providing unlimited support through mentoring, contributions and volunteering.

Ms. Shaheed-Levrone attended Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore City Community College, and Coppin State College ultimately obtaining both a Bachelor of Science and a master's degree in management. Throughout the course of her subsequent career, she served as a member of several relevant organizations, including the lieutenant governor's domestic violence coordinator council and the domestic violence fatality review board of Baltimore. For her exemplary performance in the field, she had been lauded on multiple occasions in local newspapers for her work within the Family Crimes Unit, and received two Governor's Victim Assistance Awards in 2005 and 2009, respectively. Likewise, Ms. Shaheed-Levrone was bestowed with a Fullwood Foundation Award for her work in the field of domestic violence prevention in 2009.

In accounting for her success, Ms. Shaheed-Levrone credits her competitive nature, as well as her sense of perseverance. Committed to demonstrating excellence on behalf of those under her supervision, as well as those she is charged with protecting, she is singularly dedicated to operating to the best of her ability in any role she takes.
