Miller, Dawson, Sigal, & Ward award the Thumbs Up Guys Scholarship to students who focus on giving back to the community. The firm selects individuals who make an effort to support others during challenging times.

The scholarship provides funding that students can use to pay for their educational expenses. The firm only offers scholarships to students currently enrolled in school or those accepted into an educational institution.

Ms. Hughes received the scholarship after submitting an award-winning essay to the law firm. Her community assistance involved providing editorial services for Salaam Magazine, the first Islamic children's magazine in the United States.

Ms. Hughes also helped Salaam Magazine establish an online presence while providing additional services for the Turkish Cultural Center of Rochester. She provided vital services throughout the pandemic while supporting her community.

Additionally, Ms. Hughes works as Board Secretary for the Center. Her experiences have allowed her to join Advocates of Silenced Turkey. As part of their Advisory Board, she focuses on helping additional members of her community.
