Prior to embarking upon her legal career in the U.S., she attended university in her native country of Canada, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in French and English literature from Dalhousie University in 1990 and a Master of Arts in English literature from McGill University in 1993. She subsequently attained a Master of Philosophy and Master of Arts in Medieval English Literature from Yale University on a full scholarship in 1997.
Following her academic accomplishments, Ms. Coleman worked at a small immigration law firm in Chicago from 1998 until 2003. It was during this time that her passion for immigration law took hold. Ms. Coleman served as the firm's Senior Legal Assistant, working with clients from a host of countries and drafting persuasive documents required for complex government filings on behalf of a wide array of extraordinary researchers. Ms. Coleman found assisting others in achieving their immigration goals to be exceptionally fulfilling.
After several years of working in the immigration field, Ms. Coleman earned a Juris Doctor magna cum laude from the Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2007 and was subsequently admitted to the Illinois State Bar. She accepted an attorney position at the prominent Chicago law firm Sidley Austin LLP after her law school graduation. During her time at Sidley Austin, Ms. Coleman worked on multi-district litigation in federal court and served as a pro bono attorney for serval immigration matters. Since 2015, she has been the owner and attorney of her own firm, Coleman Immigration LLC, formerly known as RC Immigration LLC. In this capacity, she works with corporate decision-makers and human resources professionals to develop immigration strategies for their employees. In addition, she guides individuals and their families in obtaining nonimmigrant visas, permanent resident status, and U.S. citizenship.
An immigrant herself, Ms. Coleman is proud of developing positive relationships with her clients, ensuring they are comfortable working with her regardless of where they are in their immigration journey. Her detail-oriented approach combined with her collaborative attitude provides her firm with an impressive reputation in the field.
In addition to owning her own law firm, Ms. Coleman has served as an adjunct professor for the DePaul University College of Law Immigration Law Clinic and teaches Continuing Legal Education seminars on immigration. She is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and has appeared on several podcasts and webinars to discuss the immigration process and developments in the field.
