Having accumulated over a decade of experience, Mr. Martinez has proven his skills as an accomplished leader in his chosen field. Since 2021, he has operated as the assistant city manager for the City of Needles in California, having originally joined the City in 2017 as the Director of Development Services. In this role, he assists with establishing short and long-term development plans to meet the City's strategic growth and development objectives. Furthermore, Mr. Martinez has developed a strong relationship with the economic and business community, including government agencies, non-profit organizations, academic and business institutions as well as private entrepreneurial and civic groups with the goal of improving the lives of the residents in the City of Needles.
Mr. Martinez began his vocational journey in 2010, working in the office of management consulting and training as an intern analyst for the National Governors Association in Washington. D.C. Following the conclusion of this role, he subsequently transitioned careers to real estate development and urban planning and functioned as an executive board member for the University of Southern California Trojan Real Estate Association in 2013, a senior housing development consultant for both the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design in 2014 and Perkins Design Corporation from 2015 to 2016, as the co-founder for SP Global Realty between 2016 and 2017, and Chair of the University of Southern California Alumni Real Estate Network 2019-2020 holding an executive board position between 2017-2021. As part of his commitment to his profession, Mr. Martinez holds a California Real Estate Broker License. He also maintained memberships with the Urban Land Institute, the California City Management Foundation and the California Association for Local Economic Development, the latter of which recognized him with the "Gamechanger" Award of Excellence in 2019.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Martinez also pursued a formal education. He primarily studied at the University of Southern California, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in public policy and real estate development in 2013, and a master's degree in urban planning in 2015. In addition to his academic credentials, Mr. Martinez has also completed several certification programs at California State University, Fresno through the California Association for Local Economic Development and is recognized as an Accredited California Economic Developer.
Well regarded for his dedication to civic advocacy as well, Mr. Martinez frequently participates with the Needles Unified School District and is regularly involved in promoting activities in and raising funds for his local school district. To wit, he attributes much of his success to his integrity, his drive and determination to learn, as well as the support of his wife. In light of his many accomplishments, he is notably proud to be in a position where he can consistently improve the lives of the residents of Needles.
