They took an early look at Valencia, when the land was being graded, new homes were still on the horizon and community amenities were colorful renderings. "We came and looked in February of last year and then waited a bit before making the decision to shop as serious buyers," said Frank.

Clover by KB Home emerged as the best choice for this family, and Frank and Elizabeth picked the Plan 3, the largest home of the Clover collection. "We wanted detached, we wanted a bit of private yard, and we liked this floorplan," said Elizabeth.

Providing approximately 1,738 square feet, Plan 3 is a two-story home that welcomes visitors at the front porch. A foyer entry opens to the home's great room layout, where the island kitchen, dining and lounge spaces share views and natural light, with sliders off dining adding easy access to the side yard. The two-car garage at rear provides secure owner entry, close to the stair and powder room.

Expansive retreats define Plan 3's second level. At front are two bedrooms and full bath. At rear, the secluded primary suite features a compartmented bath, two walk-in closets, a linen closet and views to side and rear yards. A full laundry and spacious loft separate the two retreat areas.

"The loft space was a definite plus, away from the social hub and privatizing all three bedrooms," said Elizabeth. "It's also roomy and can easily handle various roles as needed."

The family moved into their new home late last December, and are comfortably settled, enjoying additional advantages of their new spot. Convenient travel time to work is one of the pluses. Frank is an air traffic controller in Palmdale, and Elizabeth is a nurse employed in the San Fernando Valley. "Our commutes are about the same, and very doable," said Frank.

Quality schools also made the grade for this young family. Elementary school children will be part of the Newhall School District or the Saugus School District, and the Wiliiam S. Hart District will serve junior and high school students.

Residence in the Santa Clarita Valley was already a draw, with its multiple parks, trails, paseos and preserved open space. The City of Santa Clarita also offers libraries, a skate park and many sports and recreation programs.
