Big Cat Sanctuary in Oregon Welcomes Newest Cheetah, Azizi

36 hours, 2,500 miles, and New Cheetah Azizi is home!

WildCat Ridge welcomes new cheetah, Azizi to Sanctuary

SCOTTS MILLS, OR, September 24, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On Monday, September 19th, WildCat Ridge Sanctuary welcomed our newest resident, Azizi, a nine-year-old Cheetah. Staff left two days earlier from Scotts Mills, OR. driving to Cheyenne, Wyoming where they met her transport. She was moved to our truck and settled in for the 18-hour drive back to the Sanctuary. There she was released into her specious habitat, where she did some exploring and decided to take a nap under the trees. Azizi is a curious and calm girl and we look forward to learning even more about her personality.

Azizi (means 'precious treasure') was born at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Texas. She was part of the AZA Survival Species Plan created in 1981. The SSP program is designed to help ensure the survival of selected species in Zoos and aquariums that are threatened or endangered in the wild.

Because Azizi is no longer active in the SSP program she has been formally retired to WildCat Ridge Sanctuary.

Over the past few years, WildCat Ridge Sanctuary has worked with AZA-accredited zoos to provide a lifetime home for cheetahs who are retired from the SSP program. Because WCR is not open to the public, our residents have the benefit of quiet, spacious habitats that allow them to truly relax and enjoy their lives.

WildCat Ridge is a 501(c)3 non-profit 'last hope' sanctuary located in beautiful Scotts Mills, Oregon. Our mission is to provide a safe, natural lifetime home for captive-born wildcats in need. WildCat Ridge Sanctuary is not open to the public; nor do we buy, sell, breed, or exhibit our animals. It's a philosophy we believe in for the safety and well-being of the wildcats.

WildCat Ridge Sanctuary receives no state or federal funding relying on fund-raising, and our generous donors and sponsors.

Being verified by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS), a member of Tigers in America (TIA) and Big Cat Sanctuary Alliance, WildCat Ridge meets strict care & safety standards, and we are the only accredited big cat sanctuary in the Pacific Northwest.
