"The Project Vintage Runway Fashion Show is always a time of celebration as we share the success stories of our graduates and all they have overcome. It gives graduates a chance to shine on the runway and display their newfound self-confidence," noted Bruce Butler, CEO of UGM Dallas. "The designers did a great job this year of incorporating used electronics into the designs. The parallels were a beautiful reminder of the transformation that takes place in the lives of the homeless just as the old electronics are transformed into something new." Photo Gallery
Terri Ives mentored up and coming fashion designers, including Adriana Thomas from Chicago, who recently held her first solo fashion show. The designers were challenged to incorporate recycled materials into their designs to help launch Recycling for the Homeless. The program was launched with UGM Dallas partnering with Re-Teck, a global leader in the recycling industry. Attendees brought used electronics to be recycled as their entry ticket to the fashion show. Project Vintage Runway boutique will serve as a collection point for used electronic devices, which includes outdated smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers. UGM Dallas joins schools, restaurants, businesses, and community locations nationwide to gather used electronics that can be recycled. Re-Teck repurposes and reuses materials before properly recycling the remaining products. A portion of the proceeds from the recovered materials goes to support the UGM Dallas homeless shelters.
Sponsors for the event included Re-Teck, The Time Group, The Original Pancake House DFW, Beckley 1115, Steadfast Fitness & Performance, Fossil, Terri Ives, Milagro, American Airlines, Asian Mint, Mary Kay Beauty Consultants, Mona Jain Jewelry, Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate, Amazing Weight Loss and Wellness, Off the Bone Barbeque, Best of Guide.com, Texas de Brazil, Furlough Brothers Packin' Bowls, Les Delices de France, DIMACO and UNLIMEAT.
