Dr. Kitra Williams has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

Dr. Williams is recognized for her expertise as a music educator, singer and actress



She is best known for her singing and acting performance in Oprah Winfrey's Broadway musical, "The Color Purple."

    COLONIAL BEACH, VA, October 13, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Kitra Williams has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than 35 years of excellence to her credit in music education and performance, Dr. Williams has found success as the leader of numerous music organizations. Since 1995, she has been the chair organizer and co-founder of the Agape Gospel Academy and established the Agape Awards in 2005. The aim of the organization is to help youth and young adults embrace messages of hope through the mediums of theater, film and animation. They provide scholarships and other opportunities to showcase their talents, cultivating their gifts and educating them about the business of music.

Outside of her work with the Agape Gospel Academy, Dr. Williams serves as the chief executive officer and co-founder with her son, of the Million Youth Peace March International. Since 2008, they have led the organization's efforts to end bullying and violence by helping raise youth peace ambassadors through education and economic empowerment.

Well regarded for her professional longevity, Dr. Williams was the musical director for five branches of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, where she taught children how to create an opera they ultimately performed for Lady Thatcher of England. She is also an accomplished singer and songwriter, both on an independent level and for films. She is the founder of the "America United" tour. Moreover, she was the main singer, songwriter and music director for the 2003 cult classic "The Room," in which she leaves her legacy of four amazing songs for the film, "You're My Rose," "I Will," "Baby You And Me" and "Crazy." The reenactment of the film received an Oscar Award.

She is best known for her singing and acting performance in Oprah Winfrey's Broadway musical, "The Color Purple," and was lauded for her leading role in the hit Gospel musical, "Woman Thou Art Loosed."

Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Williams earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education with a focus in Opera, from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania in 1981. She subsequently attained an honorary doctorate degree in "Sacred" music from the Crenshaw Christian Center along with the late Apostle Fred Price, Marla Gibbs and other greats. In recognition of her many career accomplishments, she was nominated for an Image Award by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

Within the coming years, Dr. Williams intends to focus on creating and producing music with her Musical Director Eric G. Wright. She is looking forward to continuing to release songs that inspire people of all ethnicities. She credits Otis Williams from the legendary "Temptations" for giving her that "big break" along with her son, Jayrah Gibson, who is her best friend and inspiration for her continued success. Having raised Jayrah as a single parent, Kitra is proud and grateful that as a multi- platinum producer he has helped take her musical career to greater heights.
