Jared Polis delivered remarks focused on the importance of small business owners to the Colorado economy

"We are grateful to have received such strong buy in from the state of Colorado, including the Colorado Employee Ownership Office and the governor's office," said Scott Snider, President of EPI.

WESTLAKE, OH, October 17, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- At a meeting of Colorado business owners co-sponsored by Exit Planning Institute and The Colorado Employee Ownership Office, Colorado Governor Jared Polis delivered remarks focused on the importance of small business owners to the Colorado economy.

More than 100 people attended the event, which coincided with the release of Exit Planning Institute's Colorado State of Owner Readiness Report. The report demonstrated that Colorado business owners are aware of the importance of exit planning, but many are unsure of how to start the process.

"We are grateful to have received such strong buy in from the state of Colorado, including the Colorado Employee Ownership Office and the governor's office," said Scott Snider, President of EPI. "The exit planning industry is really supportive of small business growth in Colorado, and we appreciate that Governor Jared Polis took time to elevate our research on how prepared Colorado business owners are for the next step in their businesses."

"It's incredibly valuable to see how our business owners are approaching exit planning, and how the Employee Ownership Office can further help them in these times of transition," said Jennifer Briggs, Chair of the Colorado Employee Ownership Commission. "Succession planning is one of the primary benefits of employee ownership, and it's a real driver of the office to ensure that all Coloradans are ready."

Shina Culberson, a Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA) and President of the EPI Rocky Mountain Chapter, attended the event and said, "EPI and Colorado OEDIT's research highlights the importance of educating business owners about exit options, as 65% of Colorado business owners were found to have no formal or written transition plans."

Nikki Maloney, Director of the Office of Economic Development, attended the event and said, "Our team looks forward to continuing to collaborate with the Exit Planning Institute, businesses and communities across Colorado to offer pathways to succession that allow businesses to grow and preserve legacies, employment and the goods and services they offer."
