With more than 30 years of excellence in economics and finance to his credit, Dr. Sabarwal has found success as a professor and leader of economic research. He is a professor at the University of Kansas, teaching economic theory, decision making, and game theory.

Dr. Sabarwal has published a large amount of original research in different fields, including competitive markets, game theory, finance, antitrust, and optimization. He specializes in models of decentralized and interdependent behavior, studying the individual and collective impact of such behavior. These models are used to predict outcomes in markets, communities, societies and nations. Dr. Sabarwal is a leading global expert in the development and application of monotone methods used in many fields in economics and game theory, proving many foundational results in these areas, and accumulating a large number of journal publications. His book "Monotone Games: A Unified Approach to Games with Strategic Complements and Substitutes" was published in 2021. Dr. Sabarwal gives numerous seminars and scholarly presentations on his research in a variety of settings across the world, including national and international conferences and at academic institutions.

Prior to serving in his current roles, Dr. Sabarwal began his career working with the Federal Reserve, after which he joined the University of Texas at Austin as a lecturer in 2002. He was subsequently a visiting lecturer for Washington University in St. Louis in 2005 and joined the University of Kansas in 2008 as an assistant professor, advancing to become an associate professor of economics in 2012 and the associate chair and director of graduate studies for the economics department in 2016. He also became the De-Min and Chin-Sha Wu associate professor of economics in 2018 and a Keeler Intra-University professor in 2020.

Dr. Sabarwal is also the director of the Center for Analytical Research in Economics, which he founded to facilitate scientifically rigorous research in different fields in economics and related disciplines. The Center organizes inter-university conferences and seminars and supports faculty and student research on topics of societal benefit.

In addition to research and teaching, Dr. Sabarwal serves the profession as associate editor for the International Journal of Economic Theory, expert reviewer for Mathematics Reviews, and professional reviewer for a large number of journals. He is also the chair and organizer of the annual Kansas Workshop in Economic Theory, which he has led since 2009. He serves on the Board of Trustees for the Self Graduate Fellowship (2021-2025) and is a member of the Public Scholars Group of the University of Kansas in 2022. He was an expert witness in the political debate on big tech and antitrust in the counselor series, where two lawyers with expert witnesses debate on various topics to help demonstrate questioning and cross-questioning to students.

Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Sabarwal earned a Bachelor of Commerce, with honors in accounting from Punjabi University in India in 1989. Following this accomplishment, he attained a Master of Business Administration in finance from the University of Cincinnati in 1991. Dr. Sabarwal concluded his academic study at the University of California at Berkeley, receiving a Master of Arts in mathematics in 1999 and a Doctor of Philosophy in economics in 2000.

In recognition of his expertise and contributions, Dr. Sabarwal was elected as economic theory fellow of the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory in 2020. He was also selected as senior administrative fellow by the University of Kansas in 2018 and was also named as Oswald Scholar by the university. He was invited to U.C. Berkeley to give a series of lectures on monotone games in 2022.

Dr. Sabarwal continues to develop new research ideas. His research on control and spread of contagion is submitted for a patent filing to manage network contagion. He is developing a new theory of comparing the set of equilibrium predictions in particular classes of decentralized interdependent decisions. He is exploring deeper connections among computer science, game theory, and stochastic control, and engaging with researchers in economics and other disciplines including biology, computer science, mathematics, and physics.
