Carlsbad Department of Development Becomes Certified Economic Development Organization

Carlsbad Continues to Grow, Leading New Mexico

CARLSBAD, NM, October 27, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- New Mexico Economic Development Cabinet Secretary Alicia J. Keyes announced recently that seven community-based Economic Development Organizations (EDOs) around the state have been recognized for state certification by providing a high level of expertise and technical support to their communities. The Carlsbad Department of Development (CDOD) was among the seven that were recognized for this designation.

Economic Development Deputy Cabinet Secretary Jon Clark announced the first seven Certified EDO awardees at the New Mexico Governor's Statewide Conference on Economic Development, September 26-27. The certification can be renewed for up to a total of 10 years, with each organization eligible for up to $40,000 annually, depending upon annual recertification and availability of funding.

"We are honored to have a named certified economic development organization," said Jason Shirley, President of the CDOD Board of Directors. "This designation is a testament to the hard work of our very talented staff, as well as the great relationships and support of our community. We are proud to be recognized as an economic driver for the state of New Mexico."

The CDOD serves as the economic development agency for Carlsbad and Eddy County, New Mexico. Services offered to the community include business planning, site selection, housing development, workforce recruitment, new business development, and more. The CDOD serves companies in the oil and gas, nuclear, potash, manufacturing, healthcare, and aviation industries across the city and county.

"Carlsbad is the fastest growing community in the state, thanks to an incredibly diverse list of key industries," Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway said. "Everyone in this community is deeply committed to maintaining and developing a pro-business environment, and we encourage anyone looking to invest in this community to contact us."

The New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD) recognizes its partner EDOs that provide a high level of professional service to their communities. Through the Certified EDO program, EDD supports local EDOs to build capacity within their organizations so that they are able to provide economic development services and support their communities. The program emphasizes the importance of having a strong, well-rounded, and well-prepared EDO at the community level.

"From a County perspective, we've partnered with the Carlsbad Department of Development (CDOD) frequently for a variety of needs and services," said Al Davis, Eddy County Manager. "The County has leveraged CDOD's resources to coordinate the collection, compilation and analysis of funding requests for Federal monies received by the County. CDOD continually supports the County with information and insights regarding the trends in business and housing in the southern part of the County. CDOD is a visible, vocal and engaged advocate for the diverse range of industries in Eddy County and they constantly strive to promote our communities and attract newcomers to become a part of our great community here in Eddy County."

Already boasting the fastest growth in the state over the past decade, Carlsbad welcomes new businesses and accepts the challenges that go along with a growing community. Multiple projects have recently completed in the area, with several more ongoing across industries. Carlsbad and Eddy County are poised for the future growth positive outlook moving forward.
