KISSIMMEE, FL, October 27, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. R. LeWayne Johnson has participated in The Star Treatment, a prestigious video series hosted by renowned lawyer and television personality, Star Jones. This premier video series is extremely limited — Marquis Who's Who qualifies 500 listees on an annual basis for this elite service. Backed by a storied career in media that spans more than two decades, Star works closely with Marquis listees to assist with networking goals and commemorative efforts that can be shared with a worldwide audience.

As a retired military officer, Bronze Star recipient, and combat veteran, Dr. R. LeWayne Johnson is dedicated to ensuring that veterans have ample access to assistance in the form of various services. Service was in Dr. John-son's blood, as his uncles and grand uncles had also served in the military. Coming out of high school, he had no idea that he would be in the military, but he quickly found an initial home in the Air Force (4 years) and later in the U.S. Army; serving a total of 35 years in the U.S. Military. During his service in the U.S. Army, he spent his first six years as an enlisted before being promoted to E6 crossing over into officer's rank after obtaining his master's degree. From that point, he served as a U.S. Army Warrant Officer. Beyond the pride he felt ascending the ranks, Dr. Johnson feels that the military gave him the structure that he needed to solve problems throughout his career.

Dr. Johnson was dismayed to see the plight of veterans in the United States, who faced homelessness and PTSD all too often. He recalls an incident when he and his wife were going to a restaurant and they saw a man begging for money. He noticed that the man was wearing a military cap, so he asked if he was a veteran. The man replied that he was, but that the VA had been unresponsive to his claims thus, resulting in his losing his apartment and begging on the streets. Moved by the man's situation, Dr. Johnson contacted the Salvation Army and the Mercy Foundation to get the man and his pregnant wife, who were living a plastic tent in the woods at the time, into a shelter. This occurrence marked the beginning of Dr. Johnson's work with homelessness veterans. He subsequently founded the Florida Coalition to Prevent Veteran Homelessness, Inc.: https://www.thefloridacoalitiontopreventveteran.org/

The Florida Coalition to Prevent Veteran Homelessness, Inc. is a forward-thinking organization that pulls together community resources to help veterans specifically. As the CEO of the organization, Dr. Johnson recently put together a Kissimmee, Florida Veterans' job fair in June of 2022, with another one scheduled for November 12th. He is also in talks with his congressional representatives to ensure that veterans' issues such affordable housing, employment opportunities, suicide prevention, and veterans' mental health treatments are at the fore-front of their policy decisions.

In terms of his own success, Dr. Johnson was quick to name his family members as having given him the strength and support he needed to come into his own. "I think my grandmother played the biggest role in my success," said Dr. Johnson. "My grandmother was a midwife, and she was one of the few African-American midwives down in Mississippi. She always wanted to be a nurse, but the doctor that she worked under told her that, because it was illegal for Blacks to go to nursing or medical school, that she could not… therefore, she had to remain as a midwife. She raised me. "It was her drive, her determination, and her focus that really kept me going." I was raised on a Cotton farm.

Dr. Johnson's philosophy on life is, "…Where one is…is not always where one has to be…" Dr. Johnson tries to live his life in such a way that validates that his "service is the rent that we pay for the privilege of living on this earth" (Shirley Chisholm). With that in mind, he has certainly paid his dues, and is most definitely a worthy recipient of the Star Treatment.
