Eve Cowens Wins Birth Injury Cerebral Palsy Scholarship

Birth Injury Lawyers Group Awards Psychology Major $2,500 in Financial Support

"Eve frames her essay in a conversation about disability and the perception of normality, elaborating on the challenging nature of her growth from premature child to thriving college student."

PHOENIX, AZ, November 08, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Birth Injury Lawyers Group is delighted to announce the winner of its 2022 Birth Injury Cerebral Palsy Scholarship. This year, the $2,500 scholarship goes to Eve Cowens. Eve attends Florida Southwest State College and intends to use this scholarship to continue pursuing a bachelor's degree in psychology.

Eve's experience with her cerebral palsy diagnosis rang true with the Birth Injury Lawyers Group office. In her scholarship essay, Eve elaborates on the extent of the medical challenges she faced growing up, beginning with her premature birth and leading to her developing mental health conditions, including OCD and BPD.

All of these conditions, both at their onset and as they grew complicated later in life, made it more challenging for Eve to achieve academic success. Even so, she and her family worked through financial and physical obstacles to find the path in life that suited Eve best.

Growing up, Eve had to contend with more than the challenges Cerebral Palsy posed to her health. Her peers' misunderstanding of her condition and the COVID-19 pandemic both contributed to her daily stress, and yet she pushed through.

While Eve's essay elaborates on the challenging nature of her growth from a premature baby to a thriving college student, there is another story at the core of it. Eve frames her essay in a conversation about disability and the perception of normality.

She elaborates on the warnings doctors gave to her family as well as the challenges she ran into during middle school, as the community surrounding her consistently othered her. In her own words, she used to "hide [her] diagnosis like dirty laundry, scared of being labeled disabled as if I was not sick enough to fit into that term."

Today, Eve faces the mental and physical challenges imbued in her life with new awareness and the help of a loving family. She aims to move on to her college campus and pursue independent living with the help of this scholarship. Moreover, she elaborates on her passion for psychology and cites it as one of the sources of inspiration that continues to drive her toward a thriving future.

Birth Injury Lawyers Group is excited to offer Eve and her family the financial resources to continue Eve's college education. The team looks forward to her future success and takes heart in the determination inherent in her story.
