Colorado Rural Health Center Celebrates National Rural Health Day

The Colorado Rural Health Center celebrated by hosting a luncheon in Rocky Ford, Colorado and with a slate of virtual activities.

    AURORA, CO, November 24, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Colorado Rural Health Center (CRHC), The State Office of Rural Health and Rural Health Association, recently celebrated National Rural Health Day. The annual celebration has taken place on the third Thursday in November since 2011 and is designed to honor and officially celebrate rural communities and the amazing work they accomplish day in and day out.

"National Rural Health Day, started by the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health, has grown not only into a day of celebration but a movement to recognize rural communities," said CRHC CEO Michelle Mills. "We are honored to work with rural partners every day of the year. National Rural Health Day is a time to celebrate and be thankful."

This year, CRHC was honored to celebrate the Rocky Ford Family Clinic, owned and operated by Doug Miller, FNP and Terry Miller. Through Doug's leadership, the clinic has served the community by caring for the young to the old and built lasting and trusting relationships. Rocky Ford Family Clinic has been a leader amongst Rural Health Clinics through innovation and determination of integrating behavioral health, being one of the first independent RHCs to stand up an electronic medical record and incorporating quality improvement activities. CRHC hosted a luncheon in Rocky Ford to honor the accomplishments of the Millers.

Tammy Dunker, Assisted Living Director at Rangley District Hospital and Eagle Crest Assisted Living who was honored as Colorado's Community Star. The National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) celebrates Community Stars from each state as a way to recognize exemplary rural leaders.

New this year, CRHC put together a lineup of virtual activities to recognize the day.

CRHC hosted resiliency training, a Connect for Health Colorado enrollment webinar, a Safety Net Clinic Week video showing, a virtual yoga session, and Colorado trivia!

The Colorado Rural Health Center serves as Colorado's State Office of Rural Health (SORH) and State Rural Health Association, partnering in its latter capacity with NRHA to maintain strong relationships with a robust coalition of rural members across Colorado.
