David Debs Dixon, FAIA, has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

An expert in urban design and planning, Mr. Dixon cofounded Stantec's Urban Places and serves as Stantec's Urban Places Fellow



Residential Architecture Magazine named him to their Hall of Fame "as the person we call when we have questions about cities."

    BOSTON, MA, December 14, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David Debs Dixon, FAIA, has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

An expert in urban design and planning, Mr. Dixon is passionate about well-planned cities as places that unite people and provide opportunities for common ground. As fellow and vice president of Stantec's Urban Places at Stantec, he oversees high-profile projects, including downtown plans for the cities of El Paso and Memphis, a new urban neighborhood in Portland, Maine, and replanning features for the Natick Mall, the largest mall in New England. He led post-Katrina planning for New Orleans from 2006 to 2008. Other parts of Mr. Dixon's work include providing online education for planners, speaking at planning and real estate conferences, and providing keynote addresses to a variety of planning, design, and real estate professional organizations in the United States and Canada.

Before stepping into his current role in 2019, Mr. Dixon served as Stantec's Urban Places, as planning and urban design leader and senior principal for Stantec from 2014 to 2019. Previously, he was principal-in-charge of planning and urban design for Goody Clancy from 1991 to 2014. Before venturing onto his vocational path, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in social studies with honors from Wesleyan University, a Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master of Urban Design from Harvard University.

Well regarded for his contributions to the field, Mr. Dixon has won numerous awards, including four American Planning Association (APA) Excellence in Planning Awards, the Thomas Jefferson Medal for "a lifetime of significant achievement" from the American Institute of Architecture (AIA), a Gold Medal from the American Society of Landscape Architects, and more than two dozen national planning and urban design awards from the International Downtown Association, The Congress for the New Urbanism, the Society of College and University Planners, and the AIA and APA. Residential Architecture Magazine named him to their Hall of Fame "as the person we call when we have questions about cities."

A prolific writer, Mr. Dixon is co-editor of "Suburban Remix: Creating the Next Generation of Urban Places" and co-author of "Urban Design for an Urban Century." He is a Fellow of the AIA and served as President of the Boston Society of Architects (BSA). In 2004, he worked with the AIA and BSA to organize and lead "The First National Conference on Density: Myth and Reality". In addition, he sits on the board of America Walks, an organization that advocates for walkable environments.
