Sondra Astor Stave has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

Dr. Stave retired as the director of Mansfield Adult Education after more than three decades of professional excellence



Civically, Dr. Stave has most notably served more than 50 years as the chair of every major town board and commission, except for the town council in Coventry.

    COVENTRY, CT, January 05, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sondra Astor Stave has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After accumulating more than 30 years of professional excellence, Dr. Stave retired from education as the director of Mansfield Adult Education in Storrs, Connecticut, in 1996. Beginning her career in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, as a teacher for the Montour Joint Schools between 1962 and 1965, she subsequently relocated to Connecticut where she remained until retirement. Teaching for Milford Public Schools, she also served as the director of Hartford: The City and The Region, as the director of Footsteps of History in Storrs, and as the director of the Eastern Connecticut Library Association in Willimantic. Dr. Stave also taught abroad as an instructor for Peking University in Beijing from 1984 to 1985 before becoming a scholar-in-residence at Manchester High School in 1986. Apart from her full-time commitments, she was also recognized for her distinguished tenure as a reader for the Connecticut Radio Information System (CRIS).

A talented writer, Dr. Stave published "Hartford, The City and the Region: Past, Present, Future, A Collection of Essays" in 1979. She subsequently released several cookbooks between 1987 and 1995, including "275th Anniversary Cookbook," "Exclusively Rhubarb Cookbook," "Exclusively Pumpkin Cookbook," and "Exclusively Corn Cookbook." Additionally, Dr. Stave wrote, "Achieving Racial Balance: Case Studies in School Desegregation," in 1995, which was her doctoral dissertation.

Civically, Dr. Stave has most notably served more than 50 years as the chair of every major town board and commission, except for the town council in Coventry. Among other involvement, she has been active with the Inland Wetland Agency and the Coventry Board of Education, has served as both a member and first president of the northeastern Connecticut chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, and has served as both a member and board of directors of government relations of the League of Women Voters. Dr. Stave notes the importance of engaging in activities and initiatives that support both individuals and groups and she is passionate about encouraging others to become more involved.

Highly educated, Dr. Stave received a Bachelor of Science at the City College of New York in 1961, followed by a Master of Public Administration and a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Connecticut in 1977 and 1993, respectively. Additionally, Dr. Stave held certification as an intermediate administrator. She is a member of Pi Alpha Alpha and Pi Lambda Theta.

Dr. Stave received a National Endowment of the Humanities grant in 1980. In light of her professional achievements, she was honored with a Plaque of Recognition for 20 Years of Service from the CRIS. Dr. Stave credits much of her success to her husband for affording her with many opportunities.
