Mr. Smith is distinguished for more than 17 years of expertise in mechanical design, leading to his current role as co-founder and chief executive officer of Endiatx, the maker of PillBot™, a multivitamin-sized intrabody robot that can be controlled via telemedicine. While traditional endoscopy procedures are conducted in a medical setting, with tubes slid into the patient's body, Mr. Smith envisions a future where these procedures could be performed remotely, via Zoom calls, and conducted in the patient's home.
As a child born in a dirt-floor cabin in the Owens Valley, Mr. Smith was exposed to aviation and science fiction, which became his sources of inspiration. He went on to study aerospace engineering at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo and spent 13 years working in the medical device field in the San Francisco Bay Area prior to incorporating Endiatx. He served as a research and development engineer for Cordis Endovascular, Ensure Medical, AtheroMed, and Philips, and as a senior research and development engineer for AEGEA Medical. In 2013, he founded Sextant, an international arts collective.

He attributes his success to his decision to lean into fear and embrace the unknown.
