Marquis Who's Who Honors Michael J. Chow for Expertise in Economics

Mr. Michael J. Chow completes 15 years working in public policy



    ROCKVILLE, MD, February 06, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael J. Chow has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Chow is an experienced economist with more than 15 years of experience working in public policy. Inspired by events during his time in college, Mr. Chow has dedicated his career to working in the public policy space. Having joined the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) in Washington, D.C., in 2022, he is a member of PBGC's policy, research, and analysis department. An independent government agency, the PBGC focuses on protecting the retirement security of Americans with private sector defined benefit plans.

Having begun his career as a consultant at McGinn Investment Management Inc. in Alexandria, Virginia, in 2005, Mr. Chow subsequently worked as lead data analyst and economist for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) beginning in 2007. Mr. Chow's research at NFIB has been referenced widely including in testimony before federal and state legislatures, on Capitol Hill, including by the Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and in major news publications including the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, Bloomberg, Investor's Business Daily, Politico, the Los Angeles Times, the Baltimore Sun, CNN, ABC, Fox News, and the Business Journals, among others.

After more than a decade with NFIB, Mr. Chow was recruited by the National Venture Capital Association/Venture Forward as research director in 2020. Earlier in his career, during his studies in higher education, Mr. Chow had the opportunity to serve as a summer fellow with the President's Council on Economic Advisers at The White House in 2006. He also worked for the Department of Labor's Chief Economist during the summer of 2007.

Adding to his professional endeavors, Mr. Chow has had multiple award-winning articles published in Business Economics, the official peer-reviewed journal of the National Association of Business Economics (NABE). For his work in business economics, Mr. Chow has been honored by NABE with the Adolph G. Abramson Scroll in 2010 and also received the NABE Contributed Paper Award in 2011 and 2013.

Civically, Mr. Chow has been active with a multitude of educational, nonprofit, and charitable organizations, including as an executive committee member for The Treatment and Learning Centers, a nonprofit group founded in 1950 that annually serves more than 2,000 individuals with special needs in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. A strong advocate for individuals facing medical challenges, he is also a former treasurer and board member of the Tourette Association of America's Mid-Atlantic Chapter.

A Catholic and active member of his church, Mr. Chow is a parishioner at Saint Jane Frances de Chantal Parish in Bethesda, Maryland, where he volunteers for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults program. Mr. Chow was also a Leonine Fellow at the Catholic Information Center from 2014 to 2015.

Additionally, Mr. Chow has volunteered his time in various roles with NABE, including serving as Chair of the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Roundtable. He is also a former Chair, Governor, and past President of the National Economics Club, a leading forum for Washington, D.C. economists with a history dating back to 1968.

Mr. Chow is an active volunteer with his alma mater, Princeton University, and has served as Co-Chair and Secretary for the Asian American Alumni Association of Princeton University (A4P), as a member of the Executive Committee of the University's Alumni Council, and as a national board member for the Princeton Prize in Race Relations. He is currently a member of A4P's Board of Advisors.

Mr. Chow earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Princeton University in 2004. He also received a Master of Science in econometrics and mathematical economics from The London School of Economics and Political Science in 2007 and a Master of Arts in applied economics from Johns Hopkins University in 2014.
