Recognized for more than 15 years of contributions to the field of architecture, Mr. Oqueli has found success as the founder and principal architect at Bonsai Design + Build. Founded in 2013, the firm focuses much of its efforts on providing clients with the highest quality of service in residential and commercial construction, prioritizing energy efficiency, radical sustainability, affordable housing and collaborative design. Previously, Mr. Oqueli served as a project manager on behalf of the KTGY Group Inc. from 2011 until 2013, and an architectural contractor for both KEPHART and Shears Adkins Rockmore in 2011.
Outside of his primary endeavors at architectural firms, Mr. Oqueli availed himself on behalf of students as an adjunct faculty member at the Community College of Denver from 2011 to 2012, and at Westwood College between 2009 and 2011. Prior to these roles, he had undertaken internships at WORKSHOP8 from 2010 until 2011, and with OZ Architecture from 2004 to 2008.
Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Mr. Oqueli served as a military police officer with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1998 until 2002. Throughout the course of his overseas deployment, he visited Barcelona, Spain, where he toured the Basílica de la Sagrada Família. Deeply impressed with the works of Antoni Gaudí, he discovered a deep passion for architecture and resolved to steer his career ambitions accordingly, studying environmental design at the University of Colorado Boulder and graduating with a bachelor's degree in 2005. Following this accomplishment, he attended the University of Colorado Denver, from which he received a Master of Architecture in 2008. Well-qualified in his field, he holds certification from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and a Class-C construction license via the city of Denver.
In accounting for his success, Mr. Oqueli credits his propensity for patience, diligence and a dedication to teamwork.
