Leveraging more than a decade of excellence in counseling, Mr. Escalante has earned distinction as a student services specialist, consultant and behaviorist for the Student Services Department for the Lynwood Unified School District. Since 2018, he has focused his efforts on helping counselors understand the symptoms, behavior and facts about the disease of addiction while supervising two recent graduates who are new in the field of behavioral science. He develops new and relevant materials for the needs of the students and their parents. Over the course of his career, he has worked to become a leader in his community, developing various programs and providing housing and mental health facilities. He also converted risks for street violence into opportunities for education, helping young adults gain employment and artistic skills.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Escalante began his career as a youth counselor with the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence in 2007 and was a recovery counselor for Behavioral Health Services Inc. in 2008. He continued his career as a case manager and AOD counselor for Brand New Day, a mental health and special needs facility, in 2011. In 2014. He became a youth counselor for Clínica Monseñor Oscar A. Romero, a medical clinic in Los Angeles, California, and served as a substance abuse counselor for the Los Angeles Child Guidance Clinic in 2016.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Escalante completed a three-year course on substance abuse disorders from ICC in 2006. He then attained a Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of Phoenix in 2015. Among his professional accomplishments, he is proud to have received an award almost every month when he was working at the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence. Additionally, he was named Counselor of the Month and Counselor of the Year and was inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success in 2020.
Within the coming years, Mr. Escalante intends to finish pursuing a Master of Science in marriage and family therapy and counseling with the University of Phoenix. His goal is to become an influential individual in the city he lives in, developing programs at a higher level with more resources and funding, enabling him to innovate new treatment methods. This would include contributing to work in Congress and collaborating with political members of his community.
