David M. Alvarado, PhD, Acknowledged by Marquis Who's Who for Research Accomplishments

Dr. David M. Alvarado holds the reputation of a superior colon cancer researcher



Since 2020, Dr. Alvarado has been an instructor in medicine at the Washington University School of Medicine.

    ST. LOUIS, MO, February 15, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David M. Alvarado has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Since 2020, Dr. Alvarado has been an instructor in medicine at the Washington University School of Medicine, where between 2014 and 2020 he was also appointed a postdoctoral research scholar and postdoctoral research associate. He holds impressive academic credentials, including a PhD from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, which he finished in 2014, and a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of South Florida, where he graduated magna cum laude in 2007. Dr. Alvarado's experience in academic education extends to a role as an adjunct professor at Towson University in 2013.

Dr. Alvarado prides himself on always remaining current in the field, and he avidly pursues diverse research interests related to cancer biology. He is specifically focused on intestinal biology and passionate about contributing to a better understanding of colon cancer. In fact, he shares his findings and expertise by presenting at professional conferences, including the Crohn's and Colitis Congress and Digestive Diseases Week, and Dr. Alvarado maintains vital collaborative networks through membership in the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR).

Several commendations have marked Dr. Alvarado's professional successes, including being named a fellow of The Lawrence C. Pakula, MD, IBD, Research, Innovation, and Education Fund in 2018. He also earned the Poster of Distinction award at the 2018 meeting of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, as well as the Young Investigator Travel Grant from the same foundation. Finally, Digestive Diseases Week recognized Dr. Alvarado in 2016 and 2019 for his scientific accomplishments as an Early Stage Investigator.

Dr. Alvarado credits personal perseverance for his career milestones so far, and he relies on the mentorship of Dr. Matthew Ciorba, his current adviser. He is particularly proud of his work on the SARS-CoV-2 virus during the pandemic, and his was one of the first laboratories to publish research on the interaction between that novel virus and inflammatory bowel disease. Ultimately, Dr. Alvarado aims to open his own research laboratory through which he can continue developing patient-centered research opportunities, secure grant funding, as well as mentor underrepresented trainees.
