CLIVE, IA, March 03, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Marvin L. Patterson with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Patterson celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Having recently retired as the president of the Dileab Group, Mr. Patterson devoted his career to the engineering industry for more than 45 years. Excelling in such areas as system elements, operating relationships, and principles, he also focused his career on strategic product and technology planning and executive coaching. More recently, Mr. Patterson was involved in helping companies by concentrating on creating breakthrough products that offer financial value for the client and usefulness for the customer.

Mr. Patterson began his career as a civilian electrical engineer employed by the U.S. Navy at the Naval Missile Center at Pt. Mugu, California between 1963 and 1973. Recruited by Hewlett-Packard (HP) in 1973, he was initially engaged as an electronic engineer doing research and development (R&D) of new products, and rose through the management ranks to become the company's director of corporate engineering from 1987 to 1992. In his final position at HP he was the worldwide director of R&D operations from 1992 to 1993. Additionally, Mr. Patterson served as the president for Innovation Resultants International Inc. In San Diego from 1993 to 2008.

Highly successful during his tenure at HP, Mr. Patterson was initially involved with the development of the company's graphic ink plotters. He led the engineering team that developed the HP7580A, a unique D-sized machine that used an ingenious new grit wheel mechanism to move the plotting paper back and forth under the pen. This product produced excellent quality drawings, was extremely speedy, and cost about half as much as competitive products in the market. The 7580A was so successful in the market that, for a time, it made HP's San Diego division the fastest growing and most profitable business unit in the company. Later he joined HP's corporate engineering department in Palo Alto, and was assigned the task of evaluating the new product development performance of the company's various business units. He discovered that there was no consistent relationship between the annual funds each organization invested in R&D efforts, and the annual profit they created for the company. He thus developed an intense interest in the business principles that influence the financial return that is created by R&D investments.

Becoming a published author for the first time in 1992, Mr. Patterson released "Accelerating Innovation: Improving the Process of Product Development." He subsequently released "Leading Product Innovation: Accelerating Growth in a Product-Based Business in 1999 and "Build an Industry Hot Rod: The Nuts and Bolts of Leaving Competitors in the Dust" in 2008. Civically, Mr. Patterson has devoted his time to mentoring underprivileged students. He has also been active in community services performed during his times of involvement with both Rotary and YMCA youth groups.

An alumnus of the University of Washington, Mr. Patterson achieved a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in electrical engineering in 1963 and 1970, respectively, with the assistance of an academic scholarship. He also completed the executive program at the University of Michigan. He is a licensed pilot. To remain abreast in his industry, Mr. Patterson is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
