Johnna K. Yealy, PhD, has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

Dr. Yealy is an Army Reserve service member, and an experienced physician assistant, educator, and administrator



Dr. Yealy received the Joyce Keller Faculty/Staff Volunteer of the Year Award in 2021 from the University of Tampa PEACE Volunteer Center.

    LAND O'LAKES, FL, March 15, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Johnna K. Yealy, PhD, has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Leading a long and distinguished career in health care and education, Dr. Yealy is an experienced physician assistant who is presently serving as an associate professor and as the founding program director/department chair of the University of Tampa Physician Assistant Medicine (UTPAM) program since 2016. In addition to providing classroom instruction and various administrative duties, she serves as a clinical medical provider. Besides her main priorities on campus, Dr. Yealy has been serving on the graduate council since 2016 and as a SPARTAN-ready committee member since 2019. She previously served as a UT PEACE volunteer faculty leader in 2016. Apart from her contributions at UT, Dr. Yealy is a consultant/physician assistant education accreditation consultant on behalf of Massey Consultant since 2022 after having served two previous years in a similar role at Exam Master Corporation.

Dr. Yealy was recruited from Oklahoma University Health Science Center, where she served as the Director for Assessment 2015 to 2016. She also garnered experience as an assistant professor and program director/department chair at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center from 2013 to 2014 and as an assistant professor and academic coordinator between 2012 and 2013. Furthermore, Dr. Yealy held academic appointments at Bethel University in Tennessee. Throughout her career in education, she also served on numerous committees, published several scholarly articles, abstracts, and book chapters, and presented before various professional organizations.

Prior to her scholarly work, Dr. Yealy advanced in the field from a crisis clinician to a registered nurse and physician assistant at several leading health care facilities between 1994 and 2016. She is presently specializing in emergency medicine as a physician assistant at Envision since 2017. Among her responsibilities, Dr. Yealy examines, diagnoses, and treats patients at Largo Medical Center and Clearwater Freestanding Emergency Room in Clearwater, Florida.

Among many career accomplishments, Dr. Yealy had the opportunity to train combat medics in 2019 as part of the US Army Reserves. Focusing on organizing access and instruction, she was instrumental in teaching soldiers how to properly use simulators for emergency childbirth. After retiring from the National Guard she transferred to the United States Army Reserves and serves in the 7222nd Medical Support Operations Unit holding the rank of Major. Roles she previously held include medical officer in charge of the combat medic sustainment readiness-training program, unit medical readiness officer and platoon leader, and sexual assault representative/victim's advocate.

Passionate about educating service members and health care professionals, Dr. Yealy aims to achieve higher levels of educational and administrative responsibilities. She also aspires to earn advanced physician assistant education so that she can continue to serve an instrumental role in her field.

Having partnered with several civic, educational, and nonprofit organizations and initiatives, Dr. Yealy is presently a committee member for the Community Paramedicine Program at the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay. She is also involved with Bakas Horses for Handicapped Inc. and the Wounded Warrior Foundation.

Dr. Yealy graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin with a Bachelor of Science in psychology magna cum laude in 1994. She subsequently attended the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis through which she received a second Bachelor of Science in nursing with highest honors in 1996. Dr. Yealy also received a Master of Science in physician assistant studies with honors from Bethel College in 2006 and a Doctor of Philosophy in health science, global health education, and research from California Trident University International in 2017. Additionally, Dr. Yealy received credentials as a licensed physician assistant in the states of Tennessee and Florida, National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants certification, Drug Enforcement Administration certification, and Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support/Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification.

To remain abreast in her industry, Dr. Yealy is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants. She also served on the conference committee of the Physician Assistant Education Association.

Dr. Yealy received the Joyce Keller Faculty/Staff Volunteer of the Year Award in 2021 from the University of Tampa PEACE Volunteer Center. In recognition of her years in the military, Dr. Yealy was decorated with an Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon, as well as numerous medals, including two Army Commendation Medals and a Global Ware on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.
