Leveraging more than four decades of excellence in security, Mr. Hertig has earned distinction as an advisory board member for the International Foundation for Protection Officers. He is also a member of the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association, a Charter Member and past President of the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Justice Educators and a Life Member of ASIS International.
Among his professional accomplishments, he has published extensively, serving as both a contributor and editor for various publications. He co-edited "The Professional Protection Officer: Practical Security Strategies and Emerging Trends" as well as "Security Supervision and Management: Theory and Practice of Asset Protection." These texts serve as the basis for the Certified Protection Officer (CPO) and Certified in Security Supervision and Management (CSSM) examinations.
Mr. Hertig began his career working in the campus security department while in college. He then served in sales, investigation and management, and worked as a Park Police officer. He was a security supervisor at the Harrisburg East Mall from 1978-1980 and was a nuclear security training administrator from 1980-1983. In 1984, he became an assistant professor at York College of Pennsylvania and served in this role until 2012.
Mr. Hertig has an associate's degree in commercial security from Harrisburg Area Community College, a bachelor's degree in sociology from Bloomsburg State College (University) and a master's degree in criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He also has taken graduate courses in adult education from Penn State University. He is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and a Certified Protection Officer Instructor (CPOI). He is currently researching the evolution of the security industry and plans to write a book on security history in the near future.
