Subsequently, he received a scholarship to the National Ballet Academy in Washington D.C., where he was taught by Frederic Franklin of the Royal Ballet. Over the years, he expanded upon his expertise in dance through the School of American Ballet before starting in the industry as a soloist for the American Ballet Theatre. For the following 30 years, he excelled in the restaurant and hospitality industries. Backed by years of varied expertise, Mr. Schafer presently excels as the president of the Nantucket Dance Theatre, a position he has maintained since 2014.
