DURHAM, NC, July 26, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Robert L. Trowers with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Trowers celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Trowers is a talented jazz musician who has also been a lecturer of jazz studies at North Carolina Central University in Durham since 2004. He notably teaches bass, standard trombone, and several jazz history courses. Additionally, Mr. Trowers is responsible for coordinating auditions for the music department and advising students.

As a musician of more than 35 years, Mr. Trowers has specialized in jazz trombone performance, having conducted with local jazz ensembles and performed nationally with numerous professional bands in and around New York and internationally in such countries as France, England, Belgium, Spain, and Mexico. He performed several times at Carnegie Hall, played trombone in the Count Basie Orchestra for nearly a decade, toured with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra under Wynton Marsalis, and was a regular trombonist for Randy Westin's band from 2003 to 2018 when he passed away. Moreover, Mr. Trowers has played with several celebrities, including Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Sarah Vaughn, and recorded two albums, "Synopsis" and "Point of View" via Concord Records with guest artists like Slide Hampton, Fred Westley, and Al Grey.

Among many professional accomplishments, Mr. Trowers received a research grant in 2011 from North Carolina Central University for the Big Band Jazz Education Project: A Case Study. Looking toward the future, he envisions producing and marketing his brass mouthpiece design and several more albums.

Active civically, Mr. Trowers launched a nonprofit group called Progressive Artistry, which promoted all forms of jazz, including vocal, instrumental, dance, and visual impression. The group received grants from the Brooklyn Arts Council and conducted jazz concerts and lectures throughout several inner-city communities. Mr. Trowers has also served on the board of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Jazz Education Initiative, a national coalition whose mission is to sustain jazz education in America's HBCUs. Moreover, Mr. Trowers has been active in his church, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Durham, as a worship service volunteer.

Discovering music while coming of age, Mr. Trowers' family members were all musically inclined and fostered the importance of music in the home. He began listening to jazz music in middle school and subsequently pursued jazz performance. After high school, Mr. Trowers earned a Bachelor of Arts in black studies at the City College of New York in 1980 and a master's degree in educational technology at Mercy College in 2003.

Honoring Mr. Trowers' hard work and dedication to students, the jazz ensemble at North Carolina Central University won first place at the Jack Rudin Jazz Competition at the Lincoln Center in New York in January 2023.
