Leveraging more than three decades of excellence as an experienced and accomplished medical writer in regulatory and safety documents, Ms. Cook Martin has earned distinction as the owner and independent medical writing consultant for Martin Medical Writing, LLC. Since 2022, she has focused her efforts on writing submission documents for health authorities such as the Food and Drug Administration and European Medicines Agency. She assists with the creation of integrated data documents and clinical study reports for studies with the goal of having drugs submitted and approved by the Food and Drug Administration or another health authority. She also writes protocols which investigators, clinical research coordinators and study sites need to properly and effectively conduct a clinical study. Notably, a document she wrote, "An FDA Assessment Aid," was listed on the Food and Drug Administration's website as a sample document and was reported as one of the most well-written documents ever submitted. Additionally, she is a valued member of the American Medical Writers Association and the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society.
Before establishing her company, Ms. Cook Martin began her career as a clinical research coordinator for the Emory University and Atlanta Center for Medical Research in 1993 and became a medical writer for Solvay Pharmaceuticals in 1998. She worked in a similar capacity for Worldwide Clinical Trials in 1999 and became a senior medical writer for Novartis Ophthalmics Inc. in 2001. While there, she was honored with a President's Club Award for her stellar work. She was promoted to the director of medical writing in 2003 and joined i3 Research and i3 Pharma Resourcing, a UnitedHealth Group Company, in a similar role in 2004. She subsequently served as the manager of medical writer for i3 Research in 2005 as well as the director of medical writing for Quantum Medical Communications.
In 2006, Ms. Cook Martin took a role as the manager of medical writing for Schwarz Biosciences. She became an independent consultant medical writer for Salix Pharmaceuticals in 2008, for Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals in 2009, for Hoffmann-La Roche in 2007 and for Dohmen Life Science Services in 2012. She also was an independent consultant medical writer for WithMax Consulting Inc. and Cardinal Health until coming the president and consultant medical writer for Cook Medical Communications in 2017. She then functioned as the senior manager of medical writing for the inSeption Group in 2018 and was promoted to the associate director of medical writing in 2020. In 2021, she took a role as the director of medical writing for InClin, Inc.
To prepare for her career in medical writing, Ms. Cook Martin earned a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from Emory University in 1990. Following this achievement, she attained a Master of Arts in sociology from Georgia State University in 1993. Well-qualified in her field, she holds numerous continuing education certificates from the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society.
Within the coming years, Ms. Cook Martin intends to continue consulting and contracting full time until she is ready to retire. She is presently working on three pivotal documents, two of which are investigative brochure updates and the third being a briefing document sent to health authorities to provide an overall background of a drug and disease.
