Leveraging more than two decades of excellence in group purchasing and contracting, Mr. Penny has earned distinction as the chief executive officer and co-founder of Kinetic GPO. Since 2018, he has focused his efforts on group purchasing or contracting for the public sector, assisting the chief financial officer with forecasting their budget while handling customer calls and helping the marketing, compliance and contracting teams. Additionally, he lends his expertise to the board of directors for Promise House, a non-profit that aims to end youth homelessness in North Texas. He is also a founding board member of the National Cooperative Procurement Partners.
Prior to establishing his company, Mr. Penny began his career as a national sales director for Office Depot in 1998 and became the vice president of business development and marketing for TCPN in 2011. He served as the senior vice president of business development and marketing for National IPA in 2017 and was promoted to the senior vice president of Omnia Partners later that year. During this time, he also was the president and founder of Broken Crayon from 2016 until 2021, providing opportunities for children in impoverished communities to overcome their obstacles and achieve success.
Among his numerous accomplishments, Mr. Penny was named a Top Professional and listed as a one of the Top 5 Entrepreneurs to Watch in 2023. Added to these, he holds a Guinness World Record for most painted rocks, which was attributed to him in 2021. This is the result of a project he and his daughters started during the COVID-19 pandemic where they painted rocks in a neighborhood park to spread joy and positivity throughout their community.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Penny earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in management from the Baylor University Hankamer School of Business in 1998. Following this achievement, he attained a Master of Business Administration in business administration and management from the MIT Sloan School of Management in 2017. Within the coming years, Mr. Penny intends to sell his company to enable him to focus more of his energy on benefiting his community through projects like Broken Crayon and Promise House.
